Scam

A Scam My Family Experienced
Online scams are incredibly common in today’s day and age, and you can find them anywhere. An example in my life occurred just before Christmas last year. My grandma saw an ad on Pinterest for Hey Dudes for a great price, to her it looked legitimate with photos and discounts. So, she clicked on it and bought a pair, however when she sent the link to my mom to share the deal, my mom realized something wasn’t right. The hey dudes she had purchased wasn’t an actual Hey Dudes website, and the prices were too low. She then imminently called my grandma to tell het to cancel her order and her credit card because the website was a scam to collect credit card information.
The scammers had created a fake online store selling Hey Dudes branding, tricking people into buying shoes that didn’t actually exist at a great price. They relied on it being a good deal so people would click on the website and put their card information in. After a closer inspection it was clear the website was fake. Some red flags were not being the actual Hey Dudes website and being an unrealistic price. If something seems too good to be true, too good of a deal it usually is. It’s important to make sure you are on the actual company’s website before putting in any personal information.
Thankfully my grandma was able to get her money back and get a new credit card before they took any money. However, it was a good reminder to us that scams are very common and can happen to anyone. Being careful when buying stuff online is the best route to take!
